Placing a Hold

If a book you need is currently checked out, you can place a hold to be notified when the book is returned.

  • For a book that is listed in the library catalog as checked out or otherwise unavailable, click the "request item" link in the catalog record and fill out the online hold form.
  • When the book is returned and checked in, you will receive an email that the book is ready. It will be held for you at the Access & Instruction Desk for up to five (5) days.
  • Visit the A&I Desk with your Cougar Card to check out the item

Items are placed on hold on a first come first serve basis--if the requested book is already on hold, your name would be added to the hold list.

Holds are only for items checked out or listed as unavailable. The library does not retrieve items from the stacks for students or affiliate users. If a book's status is Available, use the call number to locate it in the second floor book stacks. Visit the virtual service desk if you need assistance.
