Addlestone Library is open to the College of Charleston community and affiliates via card access. Visitors may access Addlestone Library Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, and must present a government issued ID and sign in upon entry.
Q. How do I get to the full text of a journal article?
Some articles and scholarly resources are freely available online, but many require subscription access. Find out if the library has access to the item you need.
You can access full text through the library in any of the following ways:
Through the library website
Search for the article title in the Discovery Service. Be sure to use the article title, not the journal title.
Sign into the Discovery Service using the link in the top right. This ensures full access.
If the library has access, the article you need will usually be the top result. Find the title in the results list and click Available Online to see your options for reading the article.
Library databases containing this article will be listed under View Online/Full text availability. Check the coverage dates to be sure the article you need is included, then use any link with the right coverage dates to access the full text article.
Print articles
If you find the article in the Discovery Service, but instead of Available Online you see Available at Marlene & Nathan Addlestone Library All issues 3rd floor, this means we have the article in print. Check the record to be sure we have the volume/issue you need. Print journals are arranged alphabetically by journal title on the third floor of Addlestone Library.
Once you have added College of Charleston Libraries to your saved settings, results available through CofC databases will display a View it @ CofC link. Use these View It @ CofC links to see library access.
Through a journal/database website
You can connect to CofC subscription access directly from many journal and database websites by following prompts to access via your institution. Select OpenAthens and search for College of Charleston.
Through Interlibrary Loan
Some articles are not available through our databases, but we can usually borrow them from another library using Interlibrary Loan. Look for the Request via ILL link in Discovery Service records, or sign into your ILL account and complete the article request form.
